Is Online Banking secure?
Yes! Besides using Summit 256bit encryption, Southcoast FCU's Home Banking is built with several additional safeguards to ensure your account information remains secure. Should someone attempt to access your account portfolio using an incorrect password more than three times, Southcoast FCU will lock the entire session. For your protection, in order to "unlock" the session, you will need to contact a credit union employee. Should you forget to logout of Home Banking, your session will automatically be terminated after 20 minutes of no activity.
Online Banking Safety Tips
- Keep your computer secure
Set up screen-lock passwords on all phones, tablets, and computers you use. Equip your computer with virus and spyware protection software and keep your computer operating systems and browsers updated. You should also avoid modifying your operating system (commonly called ‘jailbreaking’), which will void the warranty and expose your device to potential threats. - Browse the internet safely
Avoid using online banking while on public WiFi networks; use your cell phone connection instead. Don’t allow browsers to remember your passwords for financial sites or sites where you shop, and only log in to sites with secure browsing (look for “https” URL instead of “http”).
- Create strong, unique passwords
A strong password is a key to preventing unauthorized account access. Use a different password for each site, and never reuse the same password on multiple financial sites. Then even if a hacker gains access to one account, the same login info won't give them access to others. - Stay informed about consumer scams
